The Electric Lineman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Borough’s electrical distribution systems. This includes overhead and underground power lines, transformers, meters, and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be safety-oriented, reliable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
When electrical tasks are not actively required, the Electric Lineman is expected to assist with general maintenance and operations across Borough departments to support overall community services.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Electric Lineman responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical distribution lines.
- Install and service transformers, breakers, meters, and related equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting and emergency response for outages or electrical failures.
- Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours emergencies.
- Operate bucket trucks, diggers, and other utility equipment safely and efficiently.
- Follow all applicable safety standards, including OSHA and utility regulations.
General Maintenance & Support responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist with Public Works operations, including street repairs, traffic sign maintenance, and storm cleanup.
- Assist Sewer Department, Water Department, and Public Works as needed.
- Perform maintenance at Borough facilities.
- Mow grass, trim vegetation, and perform seasonal landscaping or snow removal.
- Support street repairs, signage installation, and storm cleanup efforts.
- Assist with building maintenance, painting, cleaning, tool organization, or vehicle upkeep.
- Supply Ordering
- Support community events or Borough projects as needed.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Superintendent to support departmental or operational needs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited lineman training program or equivalent field experience.
- Valid CDL (or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe).
- Knowledge of electrical systems, safety practices, and utility operations.
- Ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
