Public Service Announcement

Public Service Announcement:

Distracted driving is a main cause of many highway crashes.  Using/handling an interactive mobile device (cell phone, tablet, etc.) while driving is a distraction, which takes away your attention (safety).  Paul Miller’s Law, which was enacted in 2024, will be enforceable via fine effective June 6, 2026.  Police have been stopping and only warning drivers of this summary violation for the past year.    This means police may stop and cite you for use of hand-held devices while driving or even temporarily stopped in traffic or while waiting at a red light.  Pull totally off the road and stop if you must handle your phone to read or send a text or make a phone call or reply to an app.  Have a passenger (if applicable) do your communicating while you are driving.  For your safety and others, please put down and keep down your phone while driving or use hands-free technology (i.e., Bluetooth).  If stopped on and after June 6, you could be cited with a $50.00 fine plus costs/surcharges.  Check out PA Title 75 (Vehicle Code) Section 3316.1 for more information.  New Wilmington Police will enforce this law.  Thank you.
