Reminder: Snow and Ice Removal Requirements

As winter weather continues, all property owners, tenants, and occupants in the Borough of New Wilmington are reminded that, under Borough Code § 212-6, it is their responsibility to remove snow and ice from the sidewalks in front of or alongside their property within 24 hours after the snow or ice has stopped falling.

Both property owners and tenants/occupants are jointly responsible for ensuring snow and ice removal, as outlined in the Borough Code. If the snow or ice is not cleared within the required time frame, the Borough may remove it and charge the property owner, tenant, or occupant for the cost of removal, plus an additional 10% fee, in accordance with § 212-7.

Failure to comply with these snow removal requirements can result in fines of up to $600 per offense, as stated in § 212-8, in addition to any costs incurred by the Borough for removal. Each day that the violation continues may count as a separate offense.

Please make sure to clear your sidewalks promptly to avoid penalties and ensure the safety and accessibility of our community during winter conditions.
